Training for Jordanian journalists on fact-checking and detecting mis/disinformation
Arabi Facts Hub (AFH) held a fact-checking and Disinformation detection training for journalists and fact-checkers from Jordan, from August 25 to August 29, in partnership with Digital Action.
The training covered methodologies and tools to help detect disinformation on social media platforms, understand the digital harms of the information disorder epidemic, and explore tools for data and statement verification as well as misleading digital advertisements.
The sessions were facilitated by a group of expert trainers in information verification and digital rights, aimed at enhancing participants’ skills in combating disinformation and utilizing effective digital tools and artificial intelligence for fact-checking.
Training program for Jordanian Journalists on Fact-Checking and Disinformation Detection:
- Analyzing Paid Digital Ads: Fact-checking expert, Craig Silverman, facilitated a session on analyzing the content of paid advertisements on social media platforms and developing strategies to address the impact of these ads on the audience.
- Digital Risks During Crises and Conflicts: Digital rights expert, Mona Shateyah, discussed the challenges of fact-checking during crises and conflicts, revealing digital harms and how to confront them, and presented effective strategies to detect disinformation and curb the spread of the information disorder epidemic.
- Methodology for Fact-Checking Political Statements: Information verification trainer, Hussein El-Sherif, presented effective methods for fact-checking political statements, handling contradictory statements, and improving skills in political fact-checking.
- Mechanisms for Detecting Misleading Topics: Fact-checking expert ,Tony Mikhael, introduced advanced methodologies and tools for detecting disinformation, from understanding its types and societal impact to verifying news, images, and videos using visual, digital, and AI-powered tools to enhance verification accuracy.
- Methodology and Tools for News Verification: News verification expert, Ahmed Gamal, covered the methodology of fact-checking, starting with the criteria for selecting news and credible sources, effective monitoring and evaluation processes, and key verification components to ensure information accuracy.
Arabi Facts Hub (AFH) concluded its training program for Jordanian journalists and fact-checkers, and participants were given the opportunity to submit their ideas for producing fact-checking reports in collaboration with Arabi Facts Hub.
